What Is an Input List?
An input list — also called a channel list or patch list — is the document a sound engineer uses to wire and label the mixing console for your show. It pairs with your stage plot so the engineer knows both where each source is on stage and how it connects at front of house and monitors.
What an Input List Template Includes
A complete input list template has a column for each detail an engineer needs:
- Channel # — the input number on the console, in order.
- Source — what the channel is (Kick, Snare, Bass DI, Lead Vocal).
- Mic / DI — the microphone or direct box used for that source.
- Stand — boom, short, round-base, or clip.
- Phantom (+48V) — flagged for condensers and active DIs.
- Notes — anything special: backing tracks, click, spare, or shared.
Example Input List
A typical four-piece band input list might begin like this:
- 1 — Kick · dynamic mic · short stand
- 2 — Snare Top · dynamic mic · clip
- 3 — Hi-Hat · condenser · +48V · short boom
- 4 — Overheads · condenser pair · +48V · tall boom
- 5 — Bass DI · active DI · +48V
- 6 — Guitar · dynamic mic · short stand
- 7 — Lead Vocal · dynamic mic · tall boom
Generate Your Input List Automatically
